Shellfish biotoxin testing services now provided by AST
AST has commenced shellfish biotoxin testing operations as of Monday December 4th.
An information document about the new service has been emailed to many of those currently involved with biotoxin testing. Whilst this will not affect all growers, it is useful information for all interested parties to have.
AST was granted funding in June 2017 to set up a
state-of-the-art testing facility specifically for shellfish biotoxin testing.
New state-of-the-art equipment has been purchased, installed and commissioned, and testing methodolgy is now NATA accredited. The new LC-MS/MS instrument is specifically dedicated to shellfish biotoxin testing.
AST staff will be contacting growers in areas currently submitting samples for biotoxin testing, to discuss the new arrangements. There will be some changes to submitting samples but nothing too onerous.
There will be some great benefits to the industry including two sampling runs each week and results expected each Wednesday and Friday afternoon.
